MASKROSBARN

5 days left
to apply for the job

Have you grown up with a parent who has an addiction, mental illness, and/or subjected you to violence, and feel that you are doing well today? Now you have the opportunity to use your experiences to help other young people in similar situations by becoming a weekend camp leader at Maskrosbarn!

About the role

Maskrosbarn is a children's rights organization that works to support young people who have parents suffering from mental health issues, addiction, or who subject them to violence. We cater to youth aged 13-19 from all over Sweden.

The weekend camp program in Skåne is a long-term group support aimed at youth aged 13-17. The young people participating in the weekend camps are offered six camps per year in an environment that provides safety, warmth, laughter, and community. A weekend camp runs from Saturday to Sunday at a campsite in Skåne. Each weekend camp includes around 10-20 young people along with 5-10 leaders, a cook, and a responsible camp manager.

At our weekend camps, we organize a variety of activities, such as group exercises, game and movie nights, karaoke, as well as external activities like bowling, horseback riding, and ice skating. We also celebrate holidays, dress up, play, and have fun – therefore, it is important that you as a leader are playful and willing to share yourself. At the same time, you need to be secure, calm, and attentive, as you will also have individual supportive conversations with the young people.

As a weekend camp leader at Maskrosbarn, you will receive:

  • Basic training in Maskrosbarn's working methods
  • Training in weekend camps and conversation skills
  • Guidance from project leaders throughout the year
  • Opportunity for continued engagement in the organization
  • Be part of a wonderful and unique community
  • Contribute to changing young people's lives and instilling hope and belief in the future

Who are you?

You who are applying are warm, open, and genuine in your interactions with young people and colleagues. You need to be unpretentious in your work as camp days are like a large collective where everyone needs to help with everything from cleaning to leading games. You need to be able to take initiative, be brave, and have the ability to see what needs to be done while also being able to adapt your approach to be both playful with the young people as well as a secure adult. As a camp leader, we have high expectations of you, and the role entails that you will be subjected to some pressure as we have a fast pace during our weekends and live closely together.

You are expected to want to work for a longer period in the organization, at least one year, and you need to be able to work at least 3-6 camps per year starting from September 2025. This is because we work long-term with the young people to provide them with the right conditions to create trusting relationships with secure adults.

Furthermore, it is required that you:

  • Identify yourself as a Maskrosbarn, you have grown up with a parent who has drunk too much, abused substances, suffered from mental health issues, or subjected you to violence. This is a requirement as identification between young people and leaders is part of our methodology.
  • Have sufficient distance from your own experiences to be able to support other young people.
  • Have no active addictions yourself; our operations are drug- and alcohol-free.

We consider it an advantage if you:

  • Have previously worked with young people, perhaps in schools, youth centers, or group activities.
  • Are studying or have a degree in social work, psychology, youth leadership, teaching, or similar fields.
  • Have experience in group activities and support conversations.
  • Have a B driver's license.

Application

Welcome with your application by April 29, 2025. Applications are made through our recruitment system, and interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis. In your application, we would like you to include a CV and a personal letter. Upload the personal letter under "Other files". In your personal letter, we would like you to briefly answer the following questions.

  • Briefly describe why you identify as a Maskrosbarn and tell us how you have processed your memories and experiences.
  • Why do you want to work as a camp leader, and what can you contribute in that role?
  • What would be challenging for you as a camp leader?
  • Who do you think you would be for the young people?

If you proceed after the first interview, the next step is to participate in a mandatory recruitment evening at our office in Malmö on May 20 from 5-8 PM. Attending the recruitment evening does not guarantee you the position, but it is part of the interview and selection process.

If you are offered the position after the recruitment evening, you will also need to participate in mandatory training sessions. These are on September 5 from 10 AM to 5 PM and September 6 from 10 AM to 3 PM at the local office in Malmö.

If you have questions about the position, please contact Johanna Johansson at johanna.j@maskrosbarn.org or 076-721 02 71.
